Jeannie Pitjara/Petyarre was born c1957 in Utopia, north east of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.    

Jeannie is another fantastic artist who has emerged from Utopia. Beginning painting on batik silk in the early 1980s and then encouraged by her Aunt Emily Kngwarreye she continued painting on canvas.  All of Jeannie's Dreamtime stories come from the Alhalkere Country and are passed down to her from her father's side. Jeannie paints the Yam Seed, Yam Leaf and Yam Flower Dreamings.

In 1990, her work was chosen to be part of the Robert Holmes a Court Collection, which toured extensively and was featured in their book "Utopia - A Picture Story".  Jeannie’s works are sold in most major galleries around Australia and is a highly sought after artist.
